The dreaded first day.

There's always a little anxiety the night before the first day of anything. You know the feeling when you are trying to get to sleep and you are jolted awake thinking about that thing that you forgot you need to do before the all important first day of anything. The pregnant excitement.

This morning we had our first soccer class. We've been practicing for weeks at home in the backyard. Learning to kick the ball and run after it; focusing on not touching the ball with our hands was a particular struggle of self will, which 3-year olds don't have very much of. Practicing and planning is so key at age 3 for anything. We've learned all about not being prepared a for something and how much of a disaster that can be. Not interested in that tantrum.

All of that being said, I had my own anxiety about soccer starting. It's always great to find something to get out some energy, but anything organized at this point has been a mega-challenge. A lot of the time with a new experience, Ms. Clingy comes out. Maybe it even means we need to break away for some quiet time alone or need to leave the situation. Or it would be a bunch of requests to go potty, have a drink or snack at a time that just doesn't fit with what is going on. My main concern was that we were starting too early and would end up paying for classes we weren't going to, but hey what do we have to lose if we don't try?

It was so hard to get her to go to bed last night even though she didn't nap in the afternoon. This is our constant current struggle, but we've already touched on that. We woke up excited and checked the weather. It was a go on all fronts. The class was great; she had so much fun. She was a little clingy, but so were all the other kids in the class. Why were we so worried? Turns out the dreaded first day didn't need to be so dreaded after all.

P.S. The baby napped in his crib for a whole 25 minutes this afternoon and I think I heard him say "Mama" in the middle of his screams when he woke up! Wins all around today. :)

Chicken Meatballs - Seriously they aren't that bad!

We tried chicken meatballs a few years ago and really weren't impressed. It might have been one of the least edible meals we have ever had. As a glutton for punishment, I bought more ground chicken th

What a controversial topic! The baby caught a cold from his big sister which took a little over 2 weeks to shake and turned into a double ear infection. He went through about 3 or 4 weeks of not being
